It’s HalloWEEK, and I am getting so excited about the precious trick-or-treaters that will be knocking on our door this weekend!!! Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Probably because it’s nestled during the most beautiful time of year and is the prelude to the upcoming holiday season! (Or it’s because I have an abnormal sweet tooth, and it’s the one day that you can get away with eating candy for breakfast, lunch and dinner.)

Growing up, one of our favorite go-to houses to yell, “TRICK-OR-TREAT” was at my great aunt’s, Pee-Pop (short for Maie Pope, a SPOOKtacular cook, and I can hardly wait to introduce you to more of her recipes!). For Halloween, we loved visiting Pee-Pop because—in lieu of candy—she would dole out homemade caramel popcorn balls. Y’all. Now, I’ve had a popcorn ball or two in my day, but Woah Nelly! These are THE BEST! They are good, old-fashioned caramel popcorn balls that will draw the entire neighborhood to your doorstep!

I’d love to hear your favorite Halloween family traditions! Have such a fun and festive week, and be extra careful this weekend! I hope your Halloween is filled with JOY and lots of treats!

you will need…

(yield: 35-40 popcorn balls)

2 1/2 cups brown sugar

1 cup white karo

1 cup butter

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 lb popcorn kernels

Cook popcorn according to package directions.

In a sauce pan over medium-high heat, combine brown sugar, Karo, butter and salt. Stirring often, cook until it reaches a soft ball stage, 240 degrees.

Add sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. Continue cooking over medium heat until it passes the “Cold Water Candy Test.” This is the stage when the caramel forms a very firm soft ball in water.

Pour caramel over popcorn, and stir to coat. Let cool before forming into balls.

Wrap in individual cellophane bags and tie with a BOOtiul ribbon. EnJOY!
